WEEK 9: About

Balance in Producing a Mood

  • Balance is achieved by two forces of equal strength that pull in opposite directions, or by multiple forces pulling in different directions.

  • Our eyes feel comfortable with a balanced layout.

  • Lack of balance in design will irritate the viewers and spoils communication.

  • When the dynamic tension between the elements is balanced, we are able to communicate  our message effectively.

  • Two basic types of balance is symmetry and asymmetry.

WEEK 9: About

Symmetry

WEEK 9: About

Asymmetry

  • In symmetrical design, a square in the upper left shows the second square in the bottom right of page.

  • Shapes, values, colour or texture, can balance the square. However, it is challenging and visually exciting.

  • Asymmetrical design has a greater sense of movement and change, of possible instability and relative weights.
